Sessions and engaged sessions
Also called: Visits, Engagement rate, Bounce rate
A session is one visit to a website, and an engaged session is one that lasted more than ten seconds, included a conversion, or viewed at least two pages; bounce rate is the share of sessions that were not engaged.
In practice
A contractor site has a high bounce rate by design: the visitor found the number and called. A 70 percent bounce rate with calls going up is a working site. A 30 percent bounce rate with no calls is a site people wander around in.
Watch engaged sessions from search over time, not bounce rate on its own.
