    AI Overviews

Also called: Google AI Overview, SGE

AI Overviews are the AI-written summaries Google shows at the top of some search results, with links to the pages it drew the answer from.

    In practice

They appear mostly on question and comparison searches, such as how much does a furnace cost, and rarely on near me searches, which still go to the map pack. The pages cited tend to be the ones that answer the question plainly near the top.

They cut clicks to the pages below them, which is why the pages that get cited inside them matter more than the pages ranked underneath.
