Painting Company Names: 130 Ideas and the Franchise Trap

    TL;DR

130 painting company names below, sorted by category. Before you pick one, know the two traps specific to this trade. First, the national franchises own the names that sound most like a painting company: CertaPro appears on 488 US Google Maps listings, Five Star Painting on 240, Fresh Coat on 203, and you cannot use any of them. Second, the generic formula is already taken hundreds of times over: Custom Painting shows up on 1,131 listings, Pro Painting 861, Finishing Touch 771, Professional Painting 766, Quality Painting 712, in a single October 2026 pull. A name shared with 700 companies cannot be found, cannot collect reviews in one place and cannot be trademarked. The names that work for a painter do three things: they say finish rather than speed, they leave room for cabinets, decks and commercial work, and they are yours alone in your metro. Run the 15-minute availability check before the van wrap, and read the note on paint-brand names and lead-safe wording before you print anything.

Painting is the trade where the name does the most selling before the estimate. A homeowner comparing three painters sees three names, three review counts and three photos, and the name is what she repeats to her husband. Here are 130 that hold up, the two patterns that quietly sink new ones, and the check that takes a quarter of an hour.

The franchise trap and the 700-twin problem

We pulled Google Maps listing counts for the names a new painter is most likely to shortlist. The counts are US listings whose name contains the phrase, from a DataForSEO business-listings pull on October 2, 2026, so "Puget Sound Quality Painting" counts under Quality Painting. That is the right way to count, because it is also how a customer searching your name will see the field.

VerdictIf your shortlist is an adjective plus Painting, a few hundred companies already answer the phone with it. If it sounds like a franchise, a franchise probably owns it. Add a place, a family name or a word with a picture in it.

The franchise problem is the one unique to painting. CertaPro, Five Star, Fresh Coat, WOW 1 DAY and 360° Painting are national systems with registered marks, and their franchisees are in most metros. A name close to one of them invites a cease-and-desist letter and, worse, sends your reviews to their listing. The second problem, the generic twin, is the same one we documented for construction company names, where Quality Construction carries 1,079 listings. Painting is slightly less crowded at the top and more crowded in the middle: there are eleven generic phrases over 130 listings each.

    Professional and trustworthy (30)

Names that sound like the estimate will be in writing and the crew will show up at eight. Heritage Painting Co., Keystone Painters, Landmark Paint Co., Northgate Painting, True Line Painting, Fairmont Painters, Meridian Paint Co., Broadview Painting, Anchor Painting Co., Copperline Painters, Old Oak Painting, Steadfast Paint Co., Crestline Painting, Standard Painting Co., Harbor Painting, Ridgeline Painters, Beacon Paint Co., Ironwood Painting, Stonebridge Painters, Summit Painting Co., Cardinal Painting, Blue Spruce Painters, Granite Ridge Painting, Timberline Paint Co., Highpoint Painting, Foursquare Painters, Silverline Painting, Homestead Paint Co., Wrightway Painting, Evergreen Painting Co.

    Local and geographic (25)

Swap in your own geography; the pattern is the product, and a place name is the fastest way out of the 700-twin problem. It also fits painting better than most trades, because painters work a tight radius. Twin Cities Painting Co., North Metro Painters, River Valley Painting, Lakeshore Painters, Foothills Paint Co., Main Street Painting, Old Town Painters, Northside Painting Co., Southport Painters, East Valley Painting, Harbor View Painters, Midtown Paint Co., [River] Bend Painting, Boulder Creek Painters, Bayfield Painting, Cedar County Painters, Uptown Painting Co., [Mountain] View Painters, Heartland Paint Co., [Town] Painting Company, [County] Painters, Prairie Painting Co., Great Lakes Painters, Hilltop Painting of [Town], Lakeside Paint Co.

    Surname plus suffix (20)

The family name says a person signs the estimate, and it is the format that ages best on a van. Andersen Painting, Brennan Painters, Calloway Paint Co., Delgado Painting, Ferguson & Sons Painting, Garrety Painters, Holt Brothers Painting, Jensen Paint Co., Kowalski Painting, Lindqvist Painters, Maddox Painting Co., Novak & Daughters Painting, O'Rourke Painting, Pearson Paint Co., Quinn Painters, Reyes Brothers Painting, Sandoval Painting, Thornton Paint Co., Vasquez Painters, Whitfield Painting Group.

    Color, finish and craft (25)

Painting is the one trade where the product is a picture, so names with colour or finish in them read instantly. The risk is the paint-brand trap covered below; none of these borrow a manufacturer's name. Two Coats Painting, Cut & Roll Painting Co., Satin Finish Painters, Eggshell Painting Co., Drop Cloth Painting, Straight Edge Painters, Clean Line Painting, Fine Brush Painting Co., Topcoat Painters, Primer & Co., Flat White Painting, Edgework Painting, Roller & Rail Painting, Tint & Trim Painters, Full Coverage Painting, Smooth Wall Painting Co., Hue Painting, Palette Painters, Chroma Painting Co., Umber & Oak Painting, Trim Line Painters, Second Coat Painting, Brushline Painting Co., Masked Edge Painters, Level Five Painting (level five is the smoothest drywall finish, and the painters who know will smile).

    Built to scale (20)

Names that survive adding cabinets, decks, epoxy floors or a commercial division, which is where painting margins live once the residential schedule is full. North Star Finishes, Summit Coatings, Keystone Finishes Group, Meridian Coatings Co., Landmark Finishes, Broadstone Painting & Coatings, True North Finishing, Highpoint Coatings, Ironwood Finishes, Crestline Painting Group, Beacon Coatings, Standard Finishing Co., Cardinal Finishes, Anchor Coatings Group, Granite Coatings, Stonebridge Finishes, Ridgeline Coatings, Harbor Finishing Co., Fairmont Coatings, Northgate Finishes.

    Funny, used sparingly (10)

A pun on the van gets remembered and gets photographed, which is free marketing in a trade with a lot of vans. The ceiling is credibility on a $12,000 exterior; the pun works for interiors and repaints, less for the custom build. Paint Misbehavin', The Wall Street Painters, Brush Hour Painting, Rollers & Co., Pigment of Your Imagination, Roll With It Painting, Two Guys and a Brush, Watching Paint Dry Co., Latex & Laughs Painting, Shade Tree Painters.

The paint-brand trap and the lead-safe wording

Two more notes before anything gets printed. Sherwin-Williams, Benjamin Moore, Behr and PPG are registered trademarks, and "Sherwin" alone appears on more than 8,000 Google Maps listings, almost all of them the manufacturer's stores. A company name that includes a paint brand, or a logo that borrows one's colours, is a trademark problem and an SEO problem at once, because the brand will outrank you for your own name forever. Say which paint you use on the website; keep it out of the name.

The second note is federal. Painting pre-1978 housing disturbs lead paint, and the EPA's Renovation, Repair and Painting rule requires the firm to be EPA Lead-Safe Certified and to use a certified renovator on those jobs. Fines run into five figures per violation. "Lead-Safe" in a company name is a claim; if you have not completed the certification, leave it out, and once you have, the EPA logo on the estimate does more than the words in the name. Several states also license painting contractors (California's C-33 is the known one) and regulate the word "contractor," so check your state board before registering the exact name you will use on permits and contracts.

    The 15-minute availability check

In order, stopping at the first failure: your state's business registry, the .com (the .co or a hyphen is a lifetime of spelling it on the phone), Google Maps in your metro, the Facebook and Instagram handles, then a USPTO trademark search for the franchise marks. The Google Maps step is the one owners skip and the one that matters most, because it is where your reviews will live. If a company with 60 reviews already holds the name within 30 miles, pick another; you will not catch them for two years.

Name chosen. Now make it findable.

The name goes on your Google Business Profile exactly as registered (stuffing "Interior Exterior Cabinet Painting" into the profile name is a suspension risk; services belong in the services list), on a domain that matches, and on a website built to rank for the searches that pay, which in painting are the cabinet and deck searches before the head terms. That order is in our painting company SEO guide; the lead side is in painting leads; and the first two documents the new name will appear on are the painting estimate template and the painting contract template.

Naming the company is day one. Ranking it is the year.

We build painter websites that turn a brand-new name into the one homeowners find first, with the reviews and rankings that outlast the first crew.

    Frequently asked questions

What is a good name for a painting company?

One that says finish rather than speed, leaves room for cabinets, decks or commercial work, and is not already on a Google Maps listing in your metro. A place name plus Painters, a surname plus Paint Co., or a finish word like Satin, Topcoat or Level Five all pass. Adjective-plus-Painting names fail because hundreds of companies already carry each one.

Can I name my company something close to CertaPro or Five Star Painting?

No. CertaPro, Five Star Painting, Fresh Coat, WOW 1 DAY and 360° Painting are registered franchise marks with hundreds of listings each. A similar name invites a trademark demand and sends your reviews to their listing. Run a USPTO search on any name that sounds like a franchise.

Should I put a paint brand in my company name?

No. Sherwin-Williams, Benjamin Moore, Behr and PPG are trademarks, and the brand will outrank you for your own name. Say which paint you use on the website and in the estimate instead.

How do I check if a painting company name is available?

Fifteen minutes, in order: state business registry, the .com, Google Maps in your metro, social handles, then the USPTO trademark database. Stop at the first failure. The Google Maps step matters most because it is where your reviews will accumulate.

Do I need a license to call myself a painting contractor?

In some states, yes. California licenses painting contractors under the C-33 classification and several states regulate the word "contractor." Separately, the EPA's RRP rule requires Lead-Safe Certification for work on pre-1978 housing regardless of what the company is called. Check your state board before registering.

What painting company names should I avoid?

Any adjective plus Painting (Custom, Pro, Professional, Quality, Precision, Premier, Elite, Superior), anything close to a franchise mark, any paint manufacturer's name, "Lead-Safe" without the certification, urgency words like 1-Day or Rapid that read as temporary, and any name whose .com and Google Maps slot are already held by a company with more reviews than you will have for two years.
