Cleaning Business Names: 156 Ideas and How to Check One Is Free

    TL;DR

Below are 156 cleaning business names sorted by the feel you are going for: classy, catchy, clever, funny, cute, house cleaning, commercial, window cleaning, and one-person operations. Take them as raw material, not as a shopping list.

One thing to get straight first, because 450 people a month search for unused cleaning business names and the request is impossible to fill. The moment a name is published on a list like this one, it is no longer unused. Every article promising untouched names is promising something it destroyed by publishing. What you actually want is a name that is free in your state and your city, and that is a three minute check you run yourself. It is at the bottom of this post.

The test that matters more than the name

Say the name out loud, then imagine a customer typing it into Google from memory three days after seeing your van. If they would spell it wrong, you have picked a name that costs you work every week for the life of the business.

Three checks to run before you fall in love with a name

Most naming articles hand you a list and stop. The list is the easy part. These three checks are what decide whether the name helps or quietly taxes you.

Run these three checks in this order Run these three in order. Stop at the first failure. 1. State registry Secretary of State business search. Free. Two minutes. 2. Domain and GBP .com free? Any local business using it? Free. Five minutes. 3. Trademark USPTO TESS search for the exact words. Free. Five minutes. Skipping check 2 is the expensive one. A name that is legally free but already has a Google Business Profile two towns over will fight you in local search forever.
Twelve minutes of checking beats twelve months of competing with your own name.

The Google Business Profile trap is the one people miss. Google will not let you stuff keywords into your profile name. "Sparkle Cleaning" is fine. "Sparkle Cleaning Services Denver Best House Cleaners" will get your listing suspended, and getting it back is a process we have written about in Google Business Profile suspended. Your legal name and your profile name should match what is on your van.

    Commercial cleaning company names

Different buyer entirely. A property manager signing a monthly contract wants competence signals, not charm. Avoid puns here.

    • Meridian Facility Services
    • Blackstone Commercial Clean

    • Northgate Janitorial
    • Ironwood Commercial Services
    • Summit Building Care

    • Open View Cleaning
    • Bright Pane Co.
    • Ladder & Light
    • Second Story Window Co.

Names for a one-person or family cleaning business

If you are the business, using your own name is underrated. It is unique by definition, it is impossible to trademark against you in most cases, and customers trust it.

    • [Your name] Home Care
    • [Your name] & Daughters Cleaning
    • The [Surname] Clean
    • [First name]'s Home Detail
    • Mama Bear Cleaning
    • Two Sisters Clean
    • The Nest Cleaning Co.
    • Homegrown Clean
    • Kitchen Table Cleaning Co.
    • Neighbor Clean
    • One Woman Wipe
    • The Standing Appointment

    What to skip

Naming mistakes that cost money later:

    • Stuffing your city and service into the legal name. "Denver House Cleaning Services Pro" does not rank better, and it will get your Google profile suspended for name spam.
    • A name you cannot spell over the phone. If you have to say "with a K" or "no E on the end", you will say it several thousand times.
    • Boxing yourself in. "Carpet Kings" is a problem the day you add window and pressure washing work. Ask any pressure washer who started as a deck company. See how to start a pressure washing business.
    • Anything with "Maid" if you may hire men. It reads as gendered to a growing share of customers and it narrows your hiring pool.
    • A .net or hyphenated domain because the .com is taken. If the .com is gone, the name is effectively gone. Customers type .com.
    • Buying a generator's output without checking it. Name generators do not check registries, domains or trademarks. They produce strings, not availability.

How to actually check a name is free

This is the part the listicles leave out, and it is the answer to the "unused names" search.

    1. State business registry. Search your Secretary of State's business database for the exact name and the closest variants. Free, and it is the only check with legal teeth in your state.
    2. Domain. Check the .com. If it is parked or for sale at four figures, move on. There are more names.
    3. Google Business Profile. Search the name plus your metro. A cleaning company two towns over with the same name and an established profile will compete with you in local results for years. This one is invisible on any legal search and it is the one that hurts. Our guide to map grid ranking explains why proximity and name similarity interact.
    4. USPTO. Search TESS for the exact words. Most local cleaning companies never register a mark, but the few that do are usually the franchises, and they enforce.
    5. Social handles. Last, not first. Availability here is nice, not decisive.
    CheckCostTimeSkip it and you risk
State registryFree2 minRejected filing, or a cease and desist
DomainFree to check2 minA permanently worse web address
Google Business ProfileFree5 minYears of splitting local results with a stranger
USPTO trademarkFree5 minA rebrand after you have bought the van wrap
TotalUnder fifteen minutes, and it is the difference between a name and a liability.

    Once the name is settled

The name gets you remembered. It does not get you found. The two things that decide whether a new cleaning company gets calls in its first year are a Google Business Profile with real review volume, and a website that answers what you charge and where you work. We covered the second one with real examples in cleaning business website examples, and the review side in how to get 100 Google reviews.

The line that goes under the name on the truck is chosen in cleaning business slogans.
