TL;DR
- 130 flooring company names below, sorted by category. Know the two traps specific to this trade before you pick one.
- First trap: national flooring brands own the names that sound most like a flooring store. Carpet One appears on 635 US Google Maps listings, Floor Coverings International on 391 and Floor & Decor on 300.
- Second trap: the material word is more crowded than the adjective. Hardwood Floors sits on 1,290 listings and Flooring Solutions on 457, against 86 for Quality Flooring, in one November 6, 2026 pull.
- A name shared with hundreds of companies cannot be found, cannot collect reviews in one place and cannot be trademarked.
- The names that work for a flooring installer say craft, leave room for a second material and belong to you alone in your metro.
- Run the 15-minute availability check before the van wrap, and read the tile-license note if you work in California.
Flooring is the trade the customer walks on every morning for years. When a neighbour admires the new oak in the hallway, the name she gives is the one on your invoice.
Here are 130 flooring company names that hold up, the two patterns that quietly sink new ones and the check that takes a quarter of an hour.
The brand trap and the 1,290-twin problem
We pulled Google Maps listing counts for the names a new flooring company is most likely to shortlist. Each count is US listings whose name contains the phrase, from a DataForSEO business-listings pull on November 6, 2026. So a made-up "Maple Street Hardwood Floors" would count under Hardwood Floors.
That is the right way to count, because it is also how a customer searching your name will see the field.
| Name on the listing | US listings carrying it | Why it is a problem |
|---|---|---|
| Hardwood Floors | 1,290 | Generic material twin |
| Carpet One | 635 | National store brand |
| Flooring Solutions | 457 | Generic twin, shared with equipment rental counters |
| Floor Coverings International | 391 | Franchise (FirstService Brands) |
| Floor & Decor | 300 | National retailer |
| Flooring America | 273 | National store brand |
| Custom Flooring | 145 | Generic twin |
| Quality Flooring | 86 | Generic twin |
| Pro Flooring | 69 | Generic twin |
| Empire Today | 67 | National installer brand |
| Elite Flooring | 50 | Generic twin |
| Premier Flooring | 48 | Generic twin |
| 50 Floor | 26 | National installer brand |
| Floor Pros | 21 | Generic twin |
| Verdict | If your shortlist is a material plus Floors, a thousand companies already answer the phone with it. If it sounds like a flooring store you have shopped in, a national brand probably owns it. Add a place, a family name or a craft word with a picture in it. | |
Flooring flips the pattern we found in other trades. In our painting company names pull, Quality Painting carried 712 listings. Quality Flooring carries 86. The adjective is fairly open here.
The crowding sits in two other places: the material word and the national brands.
The national brands own the store-sounding names
Carpet One listings follow one shape, the local owner's name and then "Carpet One Floor & Home." Flooring America does the same with the owner's name in front. A new company called "Something Carpet One" or "Flooring of America" walks straight into that network's name.
Floor Coverings International is a franchise. Its home page, read November 6, 2026, says each location is independently owned and operated, and the footer reads "A FirstService Brands Company." Every one of its 391 listings carries the full brand.
Empire Today and 50 Floor are installer brands that list each location with a city or town attached. Floor & Decor is a retail chain with 300 listings of its own. A customer who half-remembers your name will land on theirs first.
The material word is the real crowd
Hardwood Floors is the single most crowded phrase we counted, at 1,290 listings. It is the name a refinisher reaches for first, which is exactly why it fails. Your surname plus Hardwood Floors still shares a search with a thousand others.
The generic twin problem is the same one we documented for construction company names, where Quality Construction carries 1,079 listings. Flooring simply moved the crowd from the adjective to the noun.

Funny, used sparingly (10)
A pun gets remembered and gets photographed in the driveway. The ceiling is credibility on a whole-house hardwood job. Puns work best for tile and LVP installers doing bathrooms and basements.

US Google Maps listings carry the phrase "Hardwood Floors" in their name, fifteen times the 86 that carry Quality Flooring. In this trade the material word is the crowded one.
The tile license and the showroom trademark
Two flooring-specific notes before anything gets printed.
In California, tile is a different license
California's Contractors State License Board licenses flooring under the C-15 classification, Flooring and Floor Covering Contractors. The C-15 definition covers carpet, resilient flooring and wood floors with their finishing. Then it ends with "except ceramic tile."
Ceramic tile sits under its own C-54 classification. A company named "Floor & Tile" holding only a C-15 is advertising work it cannot contract for. Check your state board before the word Tile goes on the truck.
Keep the shop-at-home phrases generic
Floor Coverings International describes its model as a "Mobile Flooring Showroom," and its own site prints that phrase with the registered-mark symbol. A van that brings samples to the house is a fine way to sell. Calling your company Mobile Flooring Showroom is borrowing someone's mark.
The same logic covers manufacturer names. Put the brand of plank or carpet you install on the website and the estimate, and keep it out of the company name, where the manufacturer will outrank you for your own name.
The 15-minute availability check
In order, stopping at the first failure:
- Your state's business registry. If the exact name is already registered, stop here.
- The .com. The .co or a hyphen is a lifetime of spelling it on the phone.
- Google Maps in your metro. The step owners skip and the one that matters most, because it is where your reviews will live. Search the name and also the name with Hardwood Floors, Carpet One and Flooring America.
- The Facebook and Instagram handles. Same spelling as the .com.
- A USPTO trademark search. The US Patent and Trademark Office database, for Floor Coverings International, Empire Today, 50 Floor and anything else that sounds like a chain.
If a company with 60 reviews already holds the name within 30 miles, pick another. You will not catch them for two years.
Name chosen. Now make it findable.
The name goes on your Google Business Profile exactly as registered. Stuffing "Hardwood Carpet Tile LVP" into the profile name is a suspension risk. Materials belong in the services list and on their own site pages.
It also goes on a matching domain and a website built to rank for the searches that pay. The build order is in our contractor SEO guide, and the channels that follow are in contractor marketing.
The first document the new name will print on is the estimate. Our roundup of flooring estimating software covers the tools that draw the seam plan and put your name at the top of it.
Frequently asked questions
What is a good name for a flooring company?
One that says craft, leaves room for a second material and is not already on a Google Maps listing in your metro. A place name plus Flooring, a surname plus Floor Co. or a job-site word like Quartersawn or Tack Strip all pass. Material-plus-Floors names fail because Hardwood Floors alone sits on 1,290 US listings, and store-sounding names collide with Carpet One or Flooring America.
Can I use a name close to Carpet One or Floor Coverings International?
No. Carpet One appears on 635 US Google Maps listings and Floor Coverings International on 391, and both brands sit on every one of them. A similar name sends your reviews and calls to their locations and invites a trademark demand. Run a USPTO search on any name that sounds like a flooring chain before you register it.
Should I put Hardwood or Carpet in my company name?
Only if you plan to stay in that lane for good. A single material reads as expertise, but it caps the company when customers ask for tile or LVP, and Hardwood Floors is already the most crowded flooring phrase we counted at 1,290 listings. Floor Co., Surfaces or Floor & Tile keep the door open.
How do I check if a flooring company name is available?
Fifteen minutes, in order: your state business registry, the .com, Google Maps in your metro, social handles, then the USPTO trademark database. Stop at the first failure. The Google Maps step matters most because it is where your reviews will accumulate, and a name held nearby by a company with 60 reviews is effectively taken.
Do I need a license to install tile under a flooring company name?
In California, yes. The CSLB's C-15 Flooring and Floor Covering license covers carpet, resilient and wood floors but excludes ceramic tile, which needs the separate C-54 classification. Other states set their own rules, so check your state licensing board before a word like Tile goes into the registered name or onto the truck.
What flooring company names should I avoid?
Material-plus-Floors names like Hardwood Floors, generic phrases like Flooring Solutions or Custom Flooring, anything close to Carpet One, Flooring America, Floor & Decor, Empire Today or 50 Floor, trademarked phrases like Mobile Flooring Showroom and manufacturer brand names. Also skip any name whose .com and Google Maps slot belong to a company with more reviews than you will have for two years.
