How Much Does Claude Cost? 2026 Plans for Small Businesses

    TL;DR

Claude has five real price points: Free ($0), Pro ($17 a month billed annually, $20 monthly), Max (from $100 a month), Team ($20 per standard seat annually, $25 monthly, with a $100 premium seat tier), and Enterprise ($20 a seat plus usage billed at API rates). For most small business owners the honest answer is Pro: it adds Claude Code, Cowork, the Small Business workflows, and enough usage to run a back office. Move to Team at two or more people for central billing and admin controls. Max only earns its price if Claude is doing hours of heavy work daily. The pricing trap to understand isn't the sticker, it's usage limits: every tier meters how much Claude you get per session, and the cheaper the plan, the sooner you hit the wall.

Anthropic's pricing page is clear about numbers and quiet about fit, which is the part an owner actually needs. We pay for Claude across our own agency and set it up inside client businesses, so here's the plan-by-plan breakdown with the fit question answered, in dollars and honest tradeoffs.

Every Claude plan, with real numbers

The individual tiers on claude.com/pricing: Free, Pro at $17 annual ($20 monthly), Max from $100. The $17 figure requires paying $200 up front for the year.

Free ($0). Full chat on web, desktop, and mobile, with web search, memory, file creation, and connector support. The catch is usage: a few substantial conversations and you're waiting for the meter to reset. Fine for deciding whether you like Claude; thin for running a business on.

Pro ($17/mo annual, $20 monthly). The small-business default. Everything in Free plus roughly 5x the usage, Claude Code, Cowork (which is where Claude for Small Business lives), Claude Design and Science, unlimited projects, Research, and Microsoft 365 integration. At $200 a year this is the cheapest capable employee you will ever hire.

Max (from $100/mo). Same features as Pro with 5x to 20x the usage, higher output limits, and early access to new features. This is for people whose workday runs through Claude: developers living in Claude Code, or an owner who has automated enough that Claude works most of the day. The 20x tier costs more than the $100 entry point.

Team ($20/seat annual, $25 monthly, 2 to 150 people). Pro-level features per person plus central billing, SSO, admin controls, and no model training on your content by default. Premium seats at $100 a seat ($125 monthly) give specific people 5x usage without upgrading everyone. That mix, standard seats for the office and one premium seat for the power user, is the right shape for most shops.

Claude pricing page Team and Enterprise tab showing Team at $20 per standard seat for teams of 2 to 150 and Enterprise at seat price plus API usage
The Team and Enterprise tab: $20 standard seats for 2 to 150 people, Enterprise at $20 a seat plus usage billed at API rates, with compliance features layered on.

Enterprise ($20/seat plus usage at API rates). Adds spend controls, role-based access, audit logs, SCIM, and a HIPAA-ready option. If those words mean nothing to you, this tier isn't for you, and that's a compliment to your org chart.

    The comparison, decided

    You areBuyAnnual cost
    Kicking the tiresFree$0
Owner-operator running the back office on itPro$200
    You + office managerTeam, 2 standard seats$480
    Five-person shop, one heavy userTeam, 4 standard + 1 premium$2,160
Claude works more hours than you doMax$1,200+
VerdictStart at Pro. Upgrade when you hit usage limits twice in one week, not before. Downgrading is one click, so the cost of guessing low is an afternoon of waiting, and the cost of guessing high is real money.

The costs the pricing page doesn't show

Three of them. Usage limits are the big one: every plan meters Claude in rolling sessions, so "unlimited ideas, limited throughput" is the actual product. Heavy documents, big spreadsheets, and long Claude Code runs eat the meter fastest, which is exactly the work a business buys it for. Second, the API is a separate wallet: if someone builds you a custom tool on Claude's API, that's usage-billed per token and has nothing to do with your subscription. We build client dashboards and CRMs this way, and API costs for a small business tool typically run single-digit dollars a month, but it surprises owners who thought Pro covered it. Third, the real cost is setup time: the subscription is $200 a year, and the difference between owners who get $200 of value and $20,000 of value is whether the connectors and skills ever get wired to their actual business.

Want the $20,000 version of your $20 subscription?

We set up Claude for service businesses: the right plan, the right connectors, and workflows mapped to how your shop runs. One project, no ongoing retainer required.

Claude vs. ChatGPT on price, briefly

At the everyday tier the pricing is nearly identical (ChatGPT Plus is $20 a month; Claude Pro is $17 to $20), so price shouldn't decide this. Fit should: Claude's edge for business use is Cowork, the Small Business workflow pack, and connectors that inherit your permissions; ChatGPT's edge is ubiquity and image generation. Plenty of businesses run both and give each the jobs it wins. Our free AI Stack Picker makes that call for your specific setup, and if your bigger question is showing up when customers ask these tools for recommendations, that's a different playbook entirely.

    Frequently asked questions

How much does Claude cost per month?

Free is $0, Pro is $17 a month billed annually ($200 up front) or $20 billed monthly, Max starts at $100 a month, Team is $20 per standard seat annually ($25 monthly) for 2 to 150 people, and Enterprise runs $20 a seat plus usage billed at API rates.

Is Claude Pro worth it for a small business?

For most owners, yes. Pro adds Claude Code, Cowork with the Claude for Small Business workflows, Microsoft 365 integration, and about 5x Free's usage for $200 a year. If Claude drafts your invoices, chases receivables, and writes your first-draft marketing, it pays for itself in the first week of a month-end close.

What's the difference between Claude Pro and Claude Team?

Feature-wise they're close; Team buys management. You get central billing, SSO, admin controls over connectors, no model training on content by default, and premium seats ($100 annually) that give chosen people 5x usage. Move to Team at two or more users, or when you want company data governed at the account level.

Does Claude have usage limits on paid plans?

Yes. Every tier, including Max, meters usage in rolling sessions; paid tiers just raise the ceiling (Pro roughly 5x Free, Max 5x to 20x Pro). Long documents, spreadsheets, and Claude Code sessions consume it fastest. The upgrade signal is hitting limits twice in one week during normal work.

Is Claude for Small Business a separate price?

No. It's a free plugin that runs inside Claude Cowork on any paid plan, bundling 15 workflows, 15 skills, and integrations with QuickBooks, PayPal, HubSpot, Canva, DocuSign, Google Workspace, and Microsoft 365. You pay for the Claude plan, and the small-business package rides along.
