    Long-tail keyword

    Also called: Long tail

A long-tail keyword is a longer, more specific search such as tankless water heater installation cost Plymouth MN that few people type but that converts far better than the short head term.

    In practice

Head terms like plumber get the volume and the competition. Long-tail terms get the person who already knows what they need and where they live. A site with fifty specific pages outranks a site with one general page for all fifty.

The tools undercount them, so the best source is the questions customers ask on the phone.
