TL;DR
Asphalt paving marketing has two seasons and most paving companies only market in one. Paving season, April to October in the north, is when the phone rings on its own and the marketing that matters is the job itself: a sign and a stack of door hangers at every driveway, because a fresh black driveway on a street of grey ones sells the next three. The off-season, November to March, is when the commercial work is won, because property managers, HOAs and churches budget parking lot repaving and sealcoating in winter and award it before the plants open. Online, paving has the same gap concrete has: Google Local Services Ads has no paving category, so the paid channel is a capped Google Search campaign at the home improvement benchmark of $8.33 a click and $90.92 a lead, sent to a page with a price per square foot on it. Pay-per-call vendors sell driveway paving calls at a claimed $20 to $50 each, and the math on that is below. The plan: signs and hangers every job, a Google profile with a photo of every driveway, project pages with prices, a winter outreach list of two hundred lots, and Search in April. No billboards, no radio, no marketplace as the plan.
Skill Mammoth builds contractor websites and runs Google and Meta ads, so this is a vendor's guide and says so where it matters. Benchmarks are LocaliQ's 2026 search data and vendor pages read on October 20, 2026, linked where they exist. Search demand for paving marketing itself is small, a few dozen searches a month nationally, which tells you something: paving companies do not shop for marketing advice, they shop for leads, and the ones that read this far are already ahead.
The two seasons
| Paving season (April to October) | Off-season (November to March) | |
|---|---|---|
| Who is buying | Homeowners: driveways, repairs, sealcoating | Property managers, HOAs, churches, schools, retail: lots, sealcoating, striping, repairs |
| How they buy | Search, the neighbor's driveway, a sign | Budgets and bids, decided January to March |
| Marketing that works | Signs and hangers, Google profile, project pages, capped Search | A list of two hundred lots, a drive-by condition photo, a one-page proposal, a call |
| Marketing that wastes money | Uncapped Search in June, mailers to the whole metro | Any residential ad; nobody paves a driveway in January |
| Verdict | Residential runs itself with signs and a profile once the pavers are moving. The winter is for the commercial work that fills the first six weeks of the season before the homeowner calls start. | |
The driveway is the ad
A new asphalt driveway is the blackest thing on the street for a month, and on a block of twenty-year-old grey ones it is a billboard. The crew sets a yard sign the morning the milling starts, about $20 for a 4mm corrugated sign with stakes extra, phone number larger than the name, and hangs door hangers on the twenty nearest doors the same morning, from 7 cents each at 2,000 from Vistaprint. The hanger is a photo of a finished driveway, "we are paving on your street this week," the review count, and the offer that makes paving different from every other trade: "neighbor pricing while the paver is on your block." A paving crew's cost is mobilization. The tack truck, the paver, the roller and the plant run are the same whether you do one driveway or four on the same street the same day, so the second driveway can be quoted 15 percent lower and still make more. Say that on the hanger, and sell a "driveway day" to the street.
A Google profile with every driveway on it
"Paving company near me" and "asphalt driveway" searches mostly end in the map pack, which ranks on reviews, photos and proximity. One photo per job with the city in the caption ("Driveway replacement, Coon Rapids"), a review request by text the day the driveway cures, and every service filled in: driveways, parking lots, sealcoating, crack filling, striping, repair. A profile with two hundred driveway photos and a hundred reviews beats a profile with a logo in every suburb you drive to. The review guide has the message that gets the review, and the profile guide covers the rest.
Project pages with a price per square foot
Nobody in paving publishes prices, which is why the first company in a market to publish a range wins the click. A page per type of work (driveway replacement, overlay, sealcoating, parking lots, repair) and a page per notable job, with the city in the title, four photos, two sentences about the job and the range: "Asphalt driveway replacements in the north metro run about $X to $Y a square foot depending on base work." A homeowner who has read that line calls ready to schedule, not ready to argue. The pages take 8 to 16 weeks to rank, which is why they get built in December from last season's photos. The contractor SEO guide covers the structure; the concrete leads guide is the same playbook for the trade next door, and a paving company that also pours should read both.
Want the project pages and the price page built before April?
Fifteen minutes on your market, your mobilization math and whether Search is worth a dollar in your county. We will tell you what to build this winter, including when the answer is nothing paid.
The winter list: two hundred lots
This is the channel that separates a paving company doing $1 million from one doing $4 million, and it is not online. Between November and February, drive the commercial corridors and photograph two hundred parking lots with alligator cracking, faded striping or potholes: strip malls, churches, apartment complexes, schools, medical offices, HOA private roads. Find the property manager or the board for each. Send a one-page proposal with the photo of their lot, three options (sealcoat and stripe, mill and overlay, full replacement) with a price for each, and a sentence about when your crew can be there. Then call. Property managers budget in winter and award in March, and the company whose proposal with a photo of their actual lot arrived in January is the one that gets the call. Twenty lots won from two hundred proposals fills April and May before a single homeowner has called. The commercial contracts guide for cleaning companies describes the same outreach system; the targets are the same buildings.
Google Search, capped, in April
Local Services Ads has no paving category on Google's eligible home services list as of October 2026, so the paid online channel is Search. LocaliQ's 2026 home improvement benchmark is $8.33 a click and $90.92 a lead at an 8 percent conversion rate; paving clicks in the spring run higher. At $120 a lead and a 35 percent close, a $5,000 driveway carries about $340 in acquisition, which works at paving margins. Run it on "asphalt driveway," "driveway paving," "paving company" and "sealcoating" plus the city, send each click to the page with the price range on it, and cap the month at the driveways the crew can pave. Turn it off in July when the schedule is full; a paving company that advertises in July is paying to tell people no. Google is offering $500 to $4,500 in ad credit to new accounts that spend $500 to $3,000 in 60 days, which is worth claiming before the spring.
Pay-per-call and lead vendors, with the math
Paving has fewer lead vendors than roofing and they are less transparent. CallScaler, a pay-per-call marketplace, says driveway paving calls price at $20 to $50 per qualified call and works its own example out to $67 to $227 per acquired customer at 22 to 30 percent conversion; that is a vendor's number for a vendor's product. Networx sells shared home improvement leads at $10 to $100-plus and exclusive leads at $15 to $120-plus per its help center, with up to four contractors on a shared lead. Angi and Thumbtack sell the same homeowner to three to eight contractors at a reported $15 to $100-plus. The math on all of them: a $40 call that converts at 25 percent is $160 a job, fine for a driveway if the calls are real and the "qualified" definition holds; a $60 shared lead that closes at 10 percent is $600, which is not. Use them in a gap week. Build the channels above so there is no gap week. The Networx review has the credit policy and the arithmetic in full.
Three to skip
Billboards and radio, because a paving buyer is one homeowner with one cracked driveway or one property manager with one lot, and the highway reaches everyone else. Mailers to the whole metro, at $0.26 a piece in USPS postage before printing, because paving demand is a street at a time, not a ZIP code at a time; a hanger on the block does the same job for 7 cents. And the residential Facebook campaign in winter, which buys attention from people who cannot buy until April and will not remember you by then. Facebook has one use in paving, a before-and-after of a driveway day on a specific street, run in March to the radius around it with a "we are back on your block in April" offer.
Frequently asked questions
How do paving companies get leads?
Residential leads come from the job: a yard sign and door hangers at every driveway with a neighbor offer, a Google Business Profile with a photo of every job, and project pages with a price per square foot. Commercial leads come from a winter list of two hundred parking lots with a photo and a three-option proposal for each. Paid leads come from a capped Google Search campaign in spring.
Can asphalt contractors use Google Local Services Ads?
No. Google's eligible home services list has no paving, asphalt or driveway category as of October 2026. The paid online channel for paving is Google Search, at the home improvement benchmark of $8.33 a click and $90.92 a lead, sent to a page with a price range on it.
How much do paving leads cost?
Pay-per-call vendors claim $20 to $50 per driveway paving call. Networx sells shared leads at $10 to $100-plus and exclusive at $15 to $120-plus. A capped Google Search campaign lands near $90 to $120 a lead in spring. A sign and a hanger at the job cost a few dollars per lead and produce the best ones.
When should a paving company market?
Both seasons. Residential marketing runs April to October with the crews. Commercial marketing runs November to March, when property managers budget and award parking lot work, and the company whose proposal with a photo of their lot arrived in January wins the spring.
What is neighbor pricing in paving?
A lower quote for a second driveway on the same street the same day, because mobilization, the paver, the roller and the plant run are the same for one driveway or four. A 15 percent lower price on the second job is more profit, not less, and the door hanger should say so.
Is Facebook advertising worth it for paving?
Only in one form: a before-and-after of a driveway day on a specific street, run in March to the radius around that street with a "back on your block in April" offer. A general paving ad in winter buys attention from people who cannot buy until spring.
