TL;DR
An electrician lead from Google Ads cost $157 on average across 99 Calls' ten electrical accounts in 2026, against $56 on Local Services Ads and $39 in SearchLight's 112-account February benchmark. The click runs $24 to $26 in a managed account, and electrical converts clicks to leads at 16.8 percent, the best rate of any trade 99 Calls tracks. Those numbers work because the jobs behind them are real money: a panel upgrade runs $1,350 to $3,000, a Level 2 charger install $970 to $3,000, and SearchLight puts the average booked ticket from an LSA lead at $1,434. The campaign that keeps search leads near $100 runs LSA first, splits emergency calls from panel, charger and generator installs, and builds the negative keyword list before the first ad runs, because half of "electrician" traffic is people looking for a job, not a contractor. We manage Google Ads at $600 a month or 12 percent of spend, and the price is on the page.
Electrical is the trade where paid search is cheapest per lead and most often run badly. Cheapest because the searcher is standing in a dark kitchen and will call the first number that answers. Run badly because "electrician" is also what apprentices, job seekers and trade-school prospects type, and an unfiltered campaign pays for all of them. This guide is the numbers, from four datasets that measure different things, and the structure that produces the low end of the range.
It covers Google Search and Local Services Ads. The organic side is in the electrician SEO guide, every channel is ranked in how to get more electrician leads, and the same PPC logic for the other trades is in roofing PPC and Google Ads for plumbers.
What an electrician lead costs on Google in 2026
Four sources publish tracked data rather than guesses, and they disagree in a way that is worth understanding before you set a budget.
| Source | What it measures | Cost per lead | Cost per click |
|---|---|---|---|
| 99 Calls, Jan to Aug 2026 | Google Ads, 10 electrical accounts, 550 leads | $157 average; $80 to $278 across the middle 80 percent of accounts | $26.24; 16.8 percent of clicks become leads |
| LocaliQ, Apr 2024 to Mar 2025 | Google search, electricians and electrical contractors, medians | $93.69 | $12.18; 9.08 percent conversion |
| 99 Calls LSA estimator, Sep 2026 | Local Services Ads, 7 campaigns, last 3 months | $56.37 average, $56.08 median; $44.36 to $72.72 | Per lead, not per click |
| SearchLight Digital, Feb 2026 | Local Services Ads, 112 electrical accounts | $39; 43.4 percent booked; $1,434 average ticket | Per lead |
| Verdict | LSA is a third of the price of search and the lead books 43 percent of the time. Run it first. Search is worth adding at $100 to $160 a lead as long as the campaign is split by job type and the job-seeker traffic is excluded. | ||
Why the search numbers are so far apart
The $157 and the $94 do not contradict each other. 99 Calls' figure is 2026, ten managed accounts, and counts phone and form leads after duplicates and spam are removed. LocaliQ's is a median across thousands of campaigns, and its window closed in March 2025, before a year in which 99 Calls measured the average electrical click going from $10.96 in 2020 to $24.61 in 2026, a 125 percent rise. The gap between them is mostly time.
What both agree on is the shape. Electrical clicks are expensive, $24 to $26 in a managed account against $8.33 for the whole home improvement category in WordStream's 2026 benchmark, and electrical converts better than any other trade: 16.8 percent of clicks became leads at 99 Calls, against 13.2 percent for plumbing, 13.0 percent for HVAC and 10.2 percent for roofing. That conversion rate is why a $26 click still lands a $157 lead, cheaper than plumbing at $192, HVAC at $229 or roofing at $264 on the same table.
The LSA numbers move for a different reason. 99 Calls' own comparison shows the average electrical LSA lead going from $28.58 in spring 2025 to $43.15 in spring 2026, a 51 percent rise, and its live estimator sat at $60.14 in May and $56.37 in September. More electricians are on the platform, so the auction is tighter. Even so, the ceiling is $73 for the 90th percentile account, which is less than half of a search lead.
What the jobs are worth, and why the lead cost is fine
A $157 lead is only expensive if the job is small. Angi's July 2026 data puts a panel replacement at $1,346 on average with a range of $518 to $2,192, HomeGuide at $1,475, and Fixr at $3,000 for a 100-to-200-amp upgrade. A home Level 2 charger install is $967 on Angi's average and $1,200 to $3,000 on HomeGuide's. A whole-house rewire runs $10,000 to $30,000 on HomeGuide. SearchLight's booked-job data from real LSA leads, not cost guides, averages $1,434 a ticket.
Run the arithmetic on the ugly end. A $157 search lead that books at LocaliQ's 9 percent form-to-job rate is a lot; at SearchLight's 43 percent LSA book rate a $56 lead is $130 of acquisition on a $1,434 job. Either way the panel and charger work pays for the ads several times over. The service call that does not is the $150 outlet swap, which is why the campaign structure below keeps those searches out of the expensive campaign.
of paid clicks became leads for electricians in 2026, the highest click-to-lead rate of any home service trade 99 Calls tracks
Local Services Ads first
LSA charges per lead, shows above the search ads with the Google Verified badge, and refunds leads that were not leads. At $39 to $56 against $157, it is the first dollar of paid spend for an electrician and there is no argument for running search without it. The application takes weeks because of the license and background checks, and the Google Verified guide walks through it. The bidding mechanics and what a budget buys are in the Local Services Ads cost breakdown.
Two things changed in 2026 that matter. Google began moving Local Services Ads into Performance Max pay-per-lead campaigns in August, starting with select home service advertisers in the US, and manual maximum cost-per-lead bidding is being retired in the process. You still pay only for valid leads, but the lever that let you cap the price is going away, so the disputes process and the review count become the controls that remain. The other change is volume: Google caps how many leads it sends based on your review count and how fast you answer, and in a metro with thirty verified electricians the cap arrives before your vans are full. That gap is what search is for.
The search campaign structure that keeps a lead near $100
The mistake that produces a $278 lead is one campaign with "electrician" in it. The searches behind that word are three different customers and one non-customer, and Google prices the clicks accordingly. Ahrefs' September 2026 estimates: "electrician near me" runs 216,000 US searches a month at a $5 click and a keyword difficulty of 43, "emergency electrician near me" 15,000 at $8, "24 hour electrician" 6,900 at $9, "electrical panel upgrade" 13,000 at $3, "EV charger installation near me" 19,000 at $5, and "generator installation near me" 17,000 at 15 cents. Real auction prices in a managed account run three to five times Ahrefs' estimates; 99 Calls measured $24.64 across its electrical clicks with a low of $10.16 and a high of $45.18.
Split it into three campaigns with their own budgets. Emergency and repair in the first: no power, sparking outlet, tripping breaker, 24 hour, weekend. Call-only ads, a number that is answered, and a bid that accepts a higher click because the caller hires whoever picks up. Installs in the second: panel upgrade, EV charger, generator, hot tub and sauna circuits. Send the click to a page for that job with a price range on it, because those homeowners are comparing quotes and a page with "$1,300 to $2,500 for a 200-amp panel" converts where a generic contact page does not. General and brand in the third, at a lower bid, to catch "electrician near me" and your own name cheaply.
Demand for the head term is not flat. "Electrician near me" ran 184,000 searches in November 2025, 236,000 in February 2026 when heaters and space heaters trip breakers, and 263,000 in July when air conditioning loads peak. The July number is 43 percent above November. A campaign with one fixed budget all year is under-spending the summer and over-spending the fall.
Pro tip
Build the negative keyword list before the first ad runs. Jobs, hiring, salary, apprentice, apprenticeship, union, school, course, license, exam, how to become, DIY, how to wire, Home Depot, Lowe's, wire price. Then add every neighbouring city you do not serve. "Electrician" is a career search as often as it is a service search, and an unfiltered campaign spends a third of its budget on people who will never hire one.
Want the campaign built this way from day one?
We run Google Ads for contractors at $600 a month or 12 percent of spend, whichever is higher. Local Services Ads management is $300 a month or 15 percent. Weekly optimisation with call tracking, plus a cost-per-lead report by job type you can read in a minute.
Budget, and what management should cost
The Valley Marketing Group's 2026 electrician guide suggests $1,000 to $2,000 a month on search in a competitive metro and $500 to $700 a month on LSA. Housecall Pro's guide puts most contractors at $500 to $1,500 a month to start. Below about $1,000 on search the campaign does not get enough clicks to learn, and the cost per lead you see in month one is noise. At $1,500 and a $157 lead that is about nine or ten search leads; at $600 on LSA and a $56 lead, another ten or eleven. Twenty leads a month at a 43 percent book rate on the LSA side and a lower rate on search is eight to twelve jobs, which is a van's worth.
Management fees are where electrician PPC gets expensive quietly. The industry standard is 15 to 20 percent of spend or a flat fee of $500 and up, and on a $1,500 budget a 20 percent fee is $300 a month before a single click. We charge 12 percent or $600, whichever is higher, published on the paid ads page, which is more than most of the agencies in the electrician agency roundup will say before a sales call. Whoever you hire, get the fee as a number and the cost per lead by job type, monthly, in writing.
Three to skip
Sending every click to the home page. A panel upgrade searcher wants a price range and a photo of a finished panel; an emergency searcher wants a phone number the size of the screen. One page cannot do both, and the electrician website design review shows what the pages that convert have in common.
Running search without LSA. The cheaper, refundable lead is sitting above your ad with a badge on it. If the application is the obstacle, start it today; search can run in the meantime, but not instead.
Bidding on generator and EV terms in winter. Generator interest follows storm season and charger installs follow car purchases, which cluster in spring and late summer. Both campaigns should have their budget moved, not held, when the searches are not there.
Getting quoted a percentage of spend and no cost-per-lead number?
Send us the last three months of your campaign and we will tell you what each lead cost by job type, how much went to job seekers, and whether LSA should be carrying more of it.
Frequently asked questions
How much does an electrician lead cost on Google Ads?
$157 on average across 99 Calls' ten electrical accounts from January to August 2026, with the middle 80 percent of accounts between $80 and $278. LocaliQ's older benchmark, from campaigns running April 2024 to March 2025, puts the median at $93.69. Electrical is the cheapest of the major trades on the 2026 table: plumbing was $192, HVAC $229 and roofing $264.
How much does an electrician lead cost on Local Services Ads?
99 Calls' September 2026 estimator shows $56.37 on average and $56.08 median across seven campaigns, with the middle 80 percent between $44.36 and $72.72. SearchLight Digital's February 2026 benchmark across 112 electrical accounts puts it at $39, with 43.4 percent of leads booking and an average ticket of $1,434. Electrical LSA leads rose about 51 percent year over year in 99 Calls' spring comparison.
What is the cost per click for electrician keywords?
99 Calls measured $24.64 on average across 5,507 electrical clicks in 2026, with a low of $10.16 and a high of $45.18, up 125 percent from $10.96 in 2020. LocaliQ's 2025 median was $12.18. Ahrefs' September 2026 estimates run lower, $5 for "electrician near me", $8 for "emergency electrician near me" and $9 for "24 hour electrician", because estimates sit below the live auction.
Should an electrician run Google Ads or Local Services Ads?
Both, LSA first. Local Services Ads deliver a lead at a third of the search price, show above the ads with the Google Verified badge, and refund bad leads. Google caps LSA volume by reviews, responsiveness and budget, so search is for the demand LSA cannot reach. Note that Google began moving LSA into Performance Max pay-per-lead campaigns in August 2026 and is retiring manual maximum cost-per-lead bids.
How much should an electrician spend on Google Ads?
At least $1,000 a month on search for the campaign to learn, and $1,000 to $2,000 in a competitive metro per the Valley Marketing Group's 2026 guidance, with $500 to $700 a month on Local Services Ads. Housecall Pro's guide puts most contractors at $500 to $1,500 a month to start. Management fees of 15 to 20 percent of spend are standard; we charge 12 percent or $600 a month.
Why does an electrician campaign waste money on job seekers?
Because "electrician" is searched as a career as often as a service: jobs, salary, apprenticeship, license and training searches all match a broad "electrician" keyword. A negative keyword list covering those terms, built before the campaign launches, is the single biggest difference between a $100 lead and a $250 lead in this trade.
