Home Services Marketing in 2026: Channels Priced, Budget Split

    TL;DR

Home services marketing in 2026 is a budget problem before it is a channel problem, and the budget has a shape. Google Local Services Ads first, because they bill per lead at $20 to $80 for most trades and close at 25 to 45 percent, which lands cost per booked job at $60 to $280. A website that captures a lead at 9 p.m. second, at $1,000 to $8,000 one time, because every other channel sends people to it. Reviews and the Google Business Profile third, at the cost of a text message per job. Then SEO at $750 to $1,500 a month for a one-location company, which compounds while everything else is rented. Google Ads after that, at $8.33 a click and $90.92 a lead for home improvement on LocaliQ's 2026 benchmarks. Facebook last, at $42.95 a lead that is half as ready as a search lead. Lead marketplaces like Angi and Thumbtack only as a bridge. The split by budget: at $1,500 a month, LSAs and reviews and nothing else; at $4,000, add SEO; at $10,000, add Google Ads and a follow-up system; above that, hire a specialist and read the contract. Agencies that publish a price for all of this run from $750 to $4,999 a month. The table below has every number with its source.

Every marketing agency that serves HVAC, plumbing, roofing, electrical, pest control, landscaping and cleaning companies has a page called "home services marketing," including the two that rank first and second for the phrase, and they are sales pages. This one is written by an agency too, Skill Mammoth, and we say where we sit in the numbers. The difference is that the channels below are priced from published benchmarks and our own client data rather than ranked by what we sell, and the budget splits say when to stop buying and when to hire out. If you want the trade-specific version, the contractor marketing playbook covers the four jobs every channel has to do, and the contractor leads guide ranks nine channels by cost per booked job.

    The channels, priced

ChannelWhat it costs (2026 benchmarks)Lead readinessWhen it belongs in the budget
Google Local Services Ads$10 to $150 a lead by trade and market; most home services $20 to $80; close rates 25 to 45 percent; cost per booked job $60 to $280High; the homeowner called a verified pro from the top of the pageFirst dollar, every trade that qualifies
Website with lead capture$1,000 to $8,000 one time for a built site you own; $17.77 to $99 a month DIY plus your eveningsConverts the other channels; a form that emails you loses the 9 p.m. callerBefore any paid channel beyond LSAs
Reviews and Google Business ProfileA text message per completed job; $0 to $75 a month for a request toolDecides the map pack and the LSA rankingAlways; it is the cheapest lever on the list
Local SEO$750 to $1,500 a month for one location; $1,500 to $3,000 for multi-city; published packages from $299 to $4,999High once it ranks; 90 to 120 days to moveFrom about $4,000 a month in total budget
Google Ads (search)$8.33 a click and $90.92 a lead in home improvement (LocaliQ 2026); "emergency plumber" $76.38 a clickHigh intent, expensive clicks; needs call trackingWhen LSAs are capped out in your category
Facebook and Instagram ads$2.18 a click, $42.95 a lead, 5.3 percent conversion (2026)Low; the scroller had no plan until your photoRoofing after storms, remodels, seasonal offers; never emergency work
Lead marketplaces (Angi, Thumbtack, Networx)$15 to $100-plus a shared lead; 12-month contracts commonShared with three to eight pros; speed decidesA bridge for a new company, capped at 20 to 30 percent of budget
Agency or in-housePublished agency tiers $750 to $4,999 a month; a marketing coordinator $45,000 to $65,000 a yearDepends entirely on the aboveAbove $10,000 a month, or when the owner is the bottleneck
VerdictThe order is the strategy. Fund the channels that bill per lead and compound first, rent the ones that bill per click second, and buy shared leads only while the first two ramp.

Why Local Services Ads come first

Because they are the only channel where Google bills you for a phone call rather than a click, and because the Google Verified badge next to your name is the thing homeowners now look for. Our LSA cost guide puts the 2026 range at $10 a lead for lawn care in a small market to $150 for water damage restoration in a metro, with most home service contractors at $20 to $80. At typical 25 to 45 percent close rates that is $60 to $280 per booked job, which beats nearly every other paid channel on this page. The requirements are real: background checks, license and insurance verification, and for HVAC, plumbing and electrical an extra round of technician background checks, which the Google Verified guide walks through. The constraint is volume. LSAs cap out at whatever your category gets searched in your area, and when the dispatch board is still half empty after you are winning the LSA auction, the next dollar goes to the channels below.

Why the website is second and not last

Every channel on this page sends a homeowner somewhere, and most contractor websites are a brochure with a contact form that emails an inbox someone reads in the morning. The homeowner who called at 9 p.m. called the next company. A site that captures the lead, with an instant estimate or a text alert the second the form submits, changes the math on every channel above it, which is why it comes before SEO and before Google Ads in the order. Published prices for a built site run $1,000 to $8,000; ours are $1,000, $3,000 and $8,000, owned outright, and the contractor website cost guide prices the alternatives. Wix and Squarespace at $17.77 to $99 a month are fine products that cost you the evenings and the schema.

Reviews and the profile, which cost almost nothing

The Google Business Profile decides the map pack and the LSA ranking, and reviews decide the profile. Whitespark's 2026 survey of 47 local SEO practitioners puts the primary category, proximity, and keywords in the business title as the top three map-pack factors, with review quantity, velocity and responses in the top twenty, and geotagged photos last of 187. The system that works is a text message within 30 minutes of the completed job, a response to every review inside a day, and photos from the crew every week. The 100 reviews playbook has the timing and the scripts, and the grid ranking guide shows how to measure the result by suburb rather than by one search from the office.

    SEO, from the fourth dollar

SEO is the channel that compounds while everything else is rented, and the one most often bought too early. Under about $4,000 a month in total marketing budget, the honest advice is to fund LSAs, the site and reviews and wait; a $750 SEO program on top of a $1,500 budget starves the channels that book jobs this month. From $4,000, a one-location company should expect $750 to $1,500 a month for a program with written service and city pages, Google Business Profile management, schema and a review system, and $1,500 to $3,000 for multi-city work with authority links and a monthly call. Published packages across the market run from $299 to $4,999; the SEO packages guide says what each band should contain, and the SEO cost guide has Ahrefs' survey of 439 providers, where the most common retainer is $501 to $1,000 a month.

Google Ads and Facebook, in that order

LocaliQ's 2026 search benchmarks put home improvement at $8.33 a click and $90.92 a lead, against $5.42 and $66.69 across all industries, and the searches that actually ring a contractor's phone cost more: "emergency plumber" at $76.38 a click, "emergency ac repair" at $79.30 on Google's planner in October 2026. Google Ads earns its place when LSAs are capped in your category and you have call tracking to prove which clicks booked; without tracking it is a bill. Facebook is the cheapest lead you can buy and the least ready: $2.18 a click, $42.95 a lead, a 5.3 percent conversion rate, and a scroller who had no plan until your before-and-after photo stopped their thumb. It pays for roofing after a storm, replacements with financing, remodels and seasonal offers, and it does not pay for emergency plumbing. The Google Ads cost guide and Facebook ads guide have the trade-by-trade numbers.

    The budget splits

Monthly budgetWhere it goesWhat to expect
$1,500LSAs $1,200; review tool and profile work $300; a built site paid off over 12 months15 to 40 LSA leads a month by trade; the map pack within 90 days if reviews move
$4,000LSAs $2,000; SEO $750 to $1,500; reviews; call tracking $50LSA volume plus organic calls from service and city pages by month four
$10,000LSAs $3,000; SEO $1,500 to $3,000; Google Ads $3,000 with tracking; follow-up automation $200; reviewsThree channels attributed by booked job; a follow-up system that answers in five minutes
$20,000 and upEverything above plus Facebook for replacements and storms, and either a specialist agency at $3,000 to $5,000 or a coordinator in the officeMulti-city coverage, reporting by channel, and a contract to read before signing
VerdictThe first $1,500 is LSAs and reviews. SEO enters at $4,000. Google Ads enters at $10,000 with tracking. Agencies that publish a price run $750 to $4,999 a month for the managed version of this table.

    The job most companies skip

Get found, get contacted, get answered, get repeated. Almost everyone buys the first two and neglects the last two, which is why more traffic so often produces the same number of booked jobs. Conversion runs about eight times higher inside five minutes of a lead than after, across 5.7 million tracked leads, and most companies take 42 hours. A missed-call text-back, a lead alert to the owner's phone and an instant estimate on the site cost less than one Google Ads click a day and change the close rate on every channel in the table. The follow-up system is the build, and missed call text back is the hour-long version.

    Hiring it out

Above $10,000 a month, or whenever the owner is the one answering ads at 10 p.m., the managed version of this table is worth paying for, and the thing to buy is the order, not the logo. Agencies that publish a price for home services marketing, read on October 19, 2026: Built-Right Digital at $1,499, $2,499 and $4,999 in flat tiers sorted by revenue; Hook Agency at $2,800 for SEO and $2,000 for PPC; Thrive from $500; Skill Mammoth at $750, $1,500 and $3,000 with no contract. The platform companies, Scorpion and RYNO with Blue Corona, price on the call at $3,000 to $5,000 and up and run 12-month terms. The home service marketing agencies list ranks them by fit, and the one question that separates them is which client of theirs, in your revenue band, books jobs from the channels above today.

    Frequently asked questions

What is the best marketing for a home services business?

Google Local Services Ads first, because they bill per lead ($20 to $80 for most trades) and close at 25 to 45 percent; a website that captures the lead second; reviews and the Google Business Profile third; then local SEO from about $4,000 a month in total budget, Google Ads when LSAs cap out, and Facebook for replacements and storm work. Lead marketplaces only as a bridge.

How much should a home services company spend on marketing?

The common benchmark is 7 to 12 percent of revenue, which for a $1 million company is $6,000 to $10,000 a month. The order matters more than the total: $1,500 a month on LSAs and reviews outperforms $4,000 spread across six channels. Add SEO at about $4,000 and Google Ads at about $10,000.

What does a home services marketing agency cost?

Published tiers on October 19, 2026 run from $500 (Thrive) and $750 (Skill Mammoth) through $1,499 to $4,999 (Built-Right Digital) and $2,800 (Hook Agency) to $5,000 and up at the platform companies, before ad spend. Ahrefs' survey of 439 providers puts the most common SEO retainer at $501 to $1,000 a month.

Are Google Local Services Ads worth it for home services?

Yes, for every trade that qualifies. Cost per lead runs $10 to $150 by trade and market, most contractors pay $20 to $80, and cost per booked job lands at $60 to $280, which beats Google Ads at $90.92 a lead and shared marketplace leads. The limit is volume, which is why the next dollar goes to the website and SEO.

Do Facebook ads work for home services?

For roofing after storms, HVAC replacements with financing, remodels and seasonal offers, yes, at $42.95 a lead and $2.18 a click on 2026 benchmarks. For emergency work, no; the Facebook scroller had no plan, and the Google searcher has a broken furnace today.

Should a home services company do SEO or ads first?

Local Services Ads first, because they produce this month. SEO from about $4,000 a month in total budget, because it compounds and takes 90 to 120 days to move. Google Ads after LSAs are capped and only with call tracking. The mistake is buying a $750 SEO program on a $1,500 budget and starving the channel that books jobs now.
