Website Redesign Cost in 2026: What Each Tier Buys

A website redesign costs $3,000 to $15,000 for a small service business, $15,000 to $40,000 semi-custom, and $40,000 and up fully custom. What moves the price, the SEO migration line most quotes skip, and our flat rates.

Website Redesign Cost in 2026: What Each Tier Buys

    TL;DR

A website redesign costs $3,000 to $15,000 for a 5-to-15-page service business site from a small agency or productized builder, $15,000 to $40,000 for a semi-custom 15-to-50-page build, and $40,000 and up once a general agency adds custom UX plus integrations and a content team. Freelancers land at $2,000 to $8,000 with the follow-through risk that implies, and DIY builders cost $200 to $500 a year plus your weekends. The line item most quotes leave out is the SEO migration (redirects, carried-over titles and schema, and the pages that currently rank), which is the part that decides whether the new site loses the traffic the old one earned. Our own rebuilds run $1,000, $3,000, and $8,000 flat, or $100 to $400 a month.

You are here because the site is five years old, the phone rings less than it should, and three quotes came back an order of magnitude apart. This post is the pricing guide we wish those quotes came with: what each band pays for, what moves the number, and the one line item that has to be on the estimate even if the agency has to explain it to you. It pairs with our contractor website cost guide, which covers building from nothing; this one is about replacing something that already exists.

Redesign cost by who does the work

PathTypical 2026 costTimelineWhere it goes wrong
DIY builder (Wix, Squarespace, GoDaddy)$200 to $500/yr plus your timeWeeks of eveningsSlow templates, no redirects, no schema; you become the webmaster
Freelancer$2,000 to $8,0004 to 10 weeksGreat until they take a job; nobody owns hosting, security, or edits after launch
Productized agency (trade-specific)$3,000 to $15,0003 to 6 weeksTemplate-driven, which is fine if the template converts and yours if you leave
General agency, semi-custom$15,000 to $40,0008 to 16 weeksHours billed for discovery workshops a plumber does not need
Agency, fully custom$40,000 to $80,000+3 to 6 monthsBuilt for the design award, not the phone call
VerdictA service business with under 30 pages should land in the $3,000 to $15,000 band and refuse any quote that cannot itemize the SEO migration.

Those bands line up with the per-component numbers agencies publish: Tenet's 2026 breakdown prices standard pages at $200 to $800 each, content migration at $100 to $300 a page, and technical SEO on a redesign at $2,500 to $8,000. Multiply a 20-page site through those rates and the middle band appears on its own.

    What moves the number

Page count and page types. Ten pages (home, six services, about, contact) is a different job from 40 city pages plus a blog archive. Ask for the price per additional page up front, since it is the number that matters when you add "service area" pages later.

Template versus custom. Custom design costs $5,000 to $25,000 on its own and is worth it for a brand that sells on aesthetics. A roofing company sells on trust and reviews, and a proven layout with your photos and your reviews converts better than a novel one, for a fraction of the fee.

Integrations. CRM sync, online booking, a financing widget, an instant estimate tool: $1,000 to $3,000 for the basics, $10,000 and up when it is real API work. The instant estimate tool is the one that pays; it doubled qualified leads for a roofing client, which we wrote up in this case study.

Content. Rewriting a page runs $100 to $300 when it is done by a copywriter and $0 when the agency lifts the old text into the new template. The second option looks free and costs you the redesign, because the old copy is usually why the old site did not convert.

Who hosts and maintains it after. Monthly care runs $50 to $1,000 across the market. Ours is $350 a month and includes the edits, so that number belongs in the comparison next to the build price rather than as a surprise in month two.

Not sure the site needs a redesign?

Half the redesign quotes we see are for sites that need a faster host, three rewritten pages, and a working contact form. The free audit tells you which half you are in, with a 10-minute Loom and a written report inside 48 hours.

The line item that decides whether you keep your traffic

Your current site ranks for something. Maybe not much, but the pages that bring in the "furnace repair [town]" calls have URLs and titles that Google has trusted for years, with inbound links pointing at them. A redesign that changes URLs without a redirect map, drops the page titles for prettier ones, and deletes the blog because it looked dated will lose that traffic inside 30 days, and the new site will get blamed for a problem the migration caused. We see this every month on sites that arrive at us six months after another agency's relaunch.

The migration checklist is short and non-negotiable: a crawl of every URL on the old site, a one-to-one 301 redirect for each one that changes, page titles and meta descriptions carried over or improved (never blanked), schema markup for your business and services, the Google Business Profile website link updated on launch day, and a sitemap submitted to Search Console the same hour the DNS switches. Budget $1,500 to $5,000 for it on a mid-size site if the agency itemizes it, and treat a quote that does not mention redirects as incomplete. Our new website checklist covers the launch-day sequence; if the redesign also means changing platforms, do you need a CMS answers the question most owners skip.

    Three redesign spends to skip

Skip the discovery workshop priced at $3,000 to $12,000. You know who your customer is; the agency needs your reviews and your top ten jobs, not a half-day of sticky notes. Skip custom animation unless you sell design, since every animated hero costs load time and load time costs calls on mobile. And skip the redesign entirely if the audit shows the site converts but does not rank; that is an SEO problem, priced in how much does SEO cost, and a $12,000 rebuild will not fix it.

What a Skill Mammoth rebuild costs

Three flat prices: $1,000 for a five-page site with an instant lead funnel and chatbot, $3,000 for up to 10 service pages and 15 service-area pages with call tracking, missed-call text-back, and Google Business Profile setup, and $8,000 for the version with custom animation and interview video, plus a 90-day conversion audit. Each can be paid at $100, $150, or $400 a month instead of up front. The redirect map, the title carry-over, and the schema are included on every tier because we are the ones who would have to explain the traffic drop otherwise. Trade examples of what the finished sites look like are in plumber website design, HVAC website design, and roofing website design, and the full ladder is on the web design page.

    Frequently asked questions

How much does a website redesign cost?

$3,000 to $15,000 for a small business site of 5 to 15 pages from a productized or trade-specific agency, $15,000 to $40,000 for a semi-custom build of 15 to 50 pages, and $40,000 and up for fully custom agency work. Freelancers run $2,000 to $8,000.

How long does a redesign take?

Three to six weeks for a productized rebuild, 8 to 16 weeks with a general agency, and three to six months for custom work. The migration steps (crawl, redirects, title carry-over) add a few days and save months of lost traffic.

Will a redesign hurt my SEO?

Only if the migration is skipped. Changed URLs without 301 redirects, blanked page titles, plus deleted pages that ranked are the three causes of post-launch traffic drops. A one-to-one redirect map and carried-over titles keep the rankings the old site earned.

Should I redesign or just fix my current site?

Fix it if the site loads in under three seconds on mobile with working forms, and you can edit it yourself; the problem is likely content or rankings. Redesign it if it is slow, not mobile-friendly, built on a platform nobody will touch, or older than five years.

What should a redesign quote include?

Page count with a per-page rate, the design approach (template or custom), integrations listed by name, who writes the copy, the SEO migration steps itemized, hosting and maintenance pricing after launch, and who owns the site and domain when the relationship ends.
